Encyclopedia - Rebirth Stones

If players want to experience Underlair the way that it is intended, they will discover that permadeath is a real threat adding tremendous pressure making every decision far more meaningful and rewarding.

In order to give players more room to breathe letting them occasionally risking their lives through bold actions, the Rebirth stones were created. These special consumable items are uncommon and usually expensive and can resurrect players upon their death.

When a Rebirth stone is activated, it shields all characters from being permanently dead after falling in battle. Nonetheless, characters that fall in battle protected by Rebirth stones still need to be resurrected at a resurrection altar. Until they aren't resurrected they won't earn any experience. All their equipment is returned upon their revival.

When a character gets resurrected he is no longer protected by the Rebirth stones' effect. But characters who didn't fall still remain as so. This means that, as you play the game, you can then have characters protected from permadeath while others are vulnerable to it. It is up to the player to decide when he should activate another Rebirth stone to make sure every character remains immortal. The Rebirth stones' effect is not cumulative.
