It's time to share a night image of Underlair. The fauna morphs throughout the
day-night cycle with critters spawning and despawning in specific schedules.
Needless to say that, the difficulty increases dramatically at night as well as the rewards. The rarer trophies come from the rarest creatures, naturally.
It's important the player studies the biomes before transversing or exploring them. This information will be available in books and through NPCs
Notice how the UI gets dimmed and lightly tinted to match the close-by light source color.
Very nice! Will critters spawn randomly or are there monster generators (hives, lairs, etc.) that you can eventually eliminate to exterminate one sort of critter in that area?
ReplyDeleteI really like that subtle dimming of the UI - adapting it to the world lighting might really do a lot to prevent the UI elements from distracting from the world view. What I'm not sure about is the placement of the torch itself. It sure looks pretty and is a constant reminder that you are holding it (and, thus, not a weapon), but nobody in their right mind would hold out a torch in their field of vision while exploring the dark. You'd simply be blinded from anything in that direction! :)
Regarding critters, it will be a mixture of the 2. You won't be able to exterminate critters but you will definitely impact on their spawning rate, and there will be particular types of critters at a given area that can in fact be eradicated, making those areas much safer while still able to spawn "normal" critters.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the torch is an indicator of what the selected character is holding and will also let you track the torches lighting power which slowly depletes. It's definitely not a realistic approach, but then again, moving in tiles also isn't. ;)
